Why Webquest?

According to Tom March, "A WebQuest is a scaffolded learning structure that uses links to essential resources on the World Wide Web and an authentic task to motivate students' investigation of a central, open-ended question, development of individual expertise and participation in a final group process that attempts to transform newly acquired information into a more sophisticated understanding."

Reasons for WebQuest:
1. Increase motivation
2. Designed to address problems or issues that exist in the real world.
3. They have students use links that are pre-selected by the WebQuest writer.
4. Helps you expand your curriculum beyond your classroom walls.

Ancient Greek Webquest for Students

The ancient Greek webquest is designed to help 6th grade students use their higher thinking levels to discover ancient Greek geography and culture. This allows students to immediately access the appropriate information needed to make connections between then and now. Normally when bringing up ancient Greece on the internet, there are many indiscreet pictures and information that may not be appropriate for 12 year olds. However, setting up this webquest makes it very kid friendly, and lets students learn everything they need to know to draw logical conclusions and understand ancient Greek culture. This is also a fun way to introduce students to another time period and help them focus on the new material. It makes the lesson exciting, fun, and let's them be creative in their decision making.
